Review
"Relationships are fundamental to the meaning and being of organizations, yet have received short shrift in the literature – until now. Eby and Allen, leading scholars in the field of workplace mentoring, join forces once again to produce a powerful volume that puts relationships front and center in the study of organizational life. Drawing together leading thinkers in the field, they create a theoretically driven assessment of the processes, functions, and outcomes of both positive and negative relationships at work. It is the right book at the right time." - Belle Rose Ragins, Professor of Management, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
"People are social creatures. We crave attention, support, and recognition from others, and our accomplishments are often shared with others. But despite the central role of interpersonal relationships at work, and life in general, discussion of relationships tends to be buried within other topics, such as leadership, teams, mentoring, customer service, etc. This book is unique in that it treats relationships as a stand-alone topic. The positive and negative aspects of relationships are addressed from a wide variety of approaches by accomplished scholars. This collection of essays provides a great service to researchers, practitioners, and students alike by bringing relationships to the forefront in the study of organizational behavior. I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking the most current thinking – from many perspectives- on interpersonal relationships in organizations." - Robert C. Liden, University of Illinois at Chicago
"This edited book is a welcomed addition to serious consideration of the different forms of personal relationships that shape employees' lives inside and outside of work. The book provides a rich and needed guide into the key theoretical and methodological issues that underlie research on personal relationships and the lives of employees." - Jane Dutton, Robert L. Kahn University Professor of Business Administration and Psychology, University of Michigan
"The SIOP editorial board all agree this new book with chapters on ‘reflections and integration’ and chapters by top names in the field of psychology will do well in all applied psychology areas. It is a fine addition to the SIOP frontiers series." - Eduardo Salas, University of Central Florida, SIOP series editor
